The National Guard and D.C. Crime: Inside the Numbers

For most of this year, President Trump has proclaimed that street crime in Washington D.C. is virtually nonexistent. He assigns credit for this development, too – to himself for deployment National Guard on the streets of the nation’s capital after declaring last August that “out of control” crime in the capital was a national emergency.
“Washington D.C. is a totally safe city,” he declared by September. “You’re not reporting any crime because there is none,” he said, adding, “They said crime is down 87% and I said, ‘No, it’s not. It’s down 100%.'”
