Suspicious leaks caused a sudden drop in pressure in three main pipelines built to carry Russian natural gas to Europe.
The Washington Post has reported European officials have launched investigations into three mysterious leaks in the Nord Stream pipeline, following reports of unprecedented damage to the system from the pipeline’s operator. The Nord Stream pipeline was built in the Baltic Sea to transport natural gas from Russia to Europe.
There was no immediate impact on energy supplies to the European Union, because Russia had already cut off the flow of gas but gas had remained in the pipes. Danish military photographs showed gas bubbling to the water’s surface and into the atmosphere.
